Held in the Air Between Us 2023/2024

Suspended paper forms, loosely shaped like bodies, hang and sway, moved by breath, proximity, and passing. Fragile yet insistent, they evoke those who have come and gone, friend, foe, stranger, kin and the shifting selves that appear among others.

Each form is incomplete, responsive to surrounding forces, hovering between living and non-living, stable and unstable, provisional architectures of being in transition. Creased, folded, cut, torn, pressed, stretched, layered, thinned, thickened, softened, stiffened, pierced, stitched, and reassembled, the hand-worked paper bears the marks of time and touch.

As audiences move among them, the forms respond in a subtle choreography of proximity, shadow, and light, shaping and reshaping the space between. The installation becomes a system in motion, a meditation on how we shape and are shaped by others.

It asks how identity is held, fractured, and reconstituted. Meaning is discovered in relation, not imposed.
